10 Types of Fibromyalgia Pain
Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes widespread pain in the muscles, ligaments, joints, tendons, and other soft tissues of the body. Here are some common types of pain experienced in the different stages of fibromyalgia.
Constant Pain
Some report that their entire body is in deep, dull ache—especially in the lower back and legs.
Spreading pain
Spreading pain is a common symptom of fibromyalgia. Sometimes, you might feel pain in multiple areas of your body.
Throbbing/Pulsing pain
This is often described as a throbbing or pulsing sensation. It can be felt in different body areas, but tends to be most intense at the base of the skull, over the shoulders and upper back, and around your hips.
Shooting/Stabbing pain
When you have a pain described as “stabbing” or “shooting,” it has a sharp and quick onset. The pain can be felt in one area, or it may feel like it's all over your body.

Migraines/Headaches
Migraines and headaches are common in fibromyalgia. Migraines are more common in women than men, and a third of people with migraines have frequent episodes.

Fibromyalgia pain affects your whole body, not just a specific area, and symptoms can vary from person to person.
